A registered username allows you to identify yourself to X. (X is the channel service bot given to registered channels on Undernet and managed by CService.) It is not nick registration. Usernames are used for:
channel access via X
logging in to the CService website
joining +r (Registered Users Only) channels * setting your usermode to +x (Virtual Hostmask)
supporting a channel during the registration process
A username cannot be changed, although you may change and are encouraged to change your password frequently. The policy on Undernet is ONE username per person. If you would like to register a username for Undernet’s channel services, go to http://cservice.undernet.org/live and click on the Register! link. You must provide them with a real ISP email address, like one provided to you by your Internet Service Provider (i.e CytaNet, SpiderNet,LogosNet); they don't accept hotmail, yahoo or most other free web-based emails for registration purposes. Once you have registered a username, you can log in to X by typing:
You can put this command in mIRC(View/Options/Connect/Options...Perform tab) to log in automatically when you connect. (Make sure you select Undernet as the Network.) If you have access to a channel, X will op you after you have logged in when you type:
/msg X op #channelname nick
IRC Protection on the Undernet Network
Undernet has a channel mode +r (channel is restricted). Only registered users who are logged in can join those channels set +r. (Ops can bypass this restriction by inviting a user in who is not logged in to a registered username.).We strongly recommend our users from #Cyprus to have a registered X username so that you will be able to join the channel when the +r mode is in effect, specially now with the constant clone attacks that are taking place.Undernet also has a usermode +x. It allows logged in users to hide their real host, replacing it with @username.users.undernet.org. In order to use this mode, log in to X then type:
//mode $me +x or //mode nick +x
Log into X (/msg X@channels.undernet.org login Username Password) then type //mode $me +x or /mode nick +x. Hiding your hostname will shield you against several types of attacks often carried out on IRC, but be aware that taking part in a DCC chat or file transfer will reveal your IP address. The +x usermode remains as long as you’re connected to the IRC server, so that channel service can recognize you even if your server splits off and rejoins the net. No need to login to X all over again. For more help on how to register or use an X username, the official help channel is #UserNames on Undernet.
Channel Registration:
Undernet offers Channel Registration for established channels. Once you have an established channel with at least 10 people who regularly visit your channel and support you as the channel manager, you may submit a channel registration application. To submit a channel registration request for an established channel, go to http://cservice.undernet.org/live/ , log in with your username and password, then click on Register A Channel. You will need the registered usernames of 10 supporters from your channel. It will take about 10 days to be approved or rejected. Click the Check App link to check the status of the registration process on the CService site.For more info, check out http://cservice.undernet.org/live/regproc/aup.phpThe Official Help Channel of X that can help with all your X related questions along with Channel Registration related questions is #Cservice on Undernet!
